Sub Profiles: Straight OD Sub – connects drill stem members with similar outside diameters.

Sub Profiles: Saver Subs extend the life of the Kelly taking the connection wear each time it is made up to a drill stem component or broke out. The saver sub connection is sacrificed because it is less inexpensive to repair or replace.

Ordering Information Rotary Subs:

  1. Application: (Kelly sub, x-over drill pipe to drill collar, x-over drill collar to drill collar, bit sub etc.) for correct bevel diameter
  2. Overall Length
  3. Largest Diameter
  4. Bore
  5. Size & Type of connection, Pin/box & special joint features, if any
  6. Diameter and Length of the reduced section. (For reduced section subs)
  7. Float bore, size & type (for bit subs)
  8. Stretch or latch on and desired OD of the Protector (for Kelly saver subs with protector)

Manufactured to conform with API Specifications – alternative materials, and hard facing available.

Reduced Section Sub. to connect drill stem components that have different diameters that warrant the cross-sectional change necessary to accommodate different connections. This sub would be used to crossover large OD drilling tools or a tapered drill collar string.

Hoisting subs can be either tapered or square shoulder types and are made from AISI 4145/4140. They are available in all diameters and lengths. When ordering, specify size and type, Drill collar OD, Tool Joint OD, Tapered, square shoulder or combination, Drill pipe OD Drill collar connection size & type Bore.

Top Drive Subs serve as the sacrificial element between the drill string and the top drive, reducing repair and maintenance costs. The Top Drive Sub can easily be repaired or replaced in the event the lower pin threads become galled or damaged. Manufactured from alloy steel, heat-treated to deliver the strength and toughness required to carry the entire weight of the drill string.

Heat treated to meet or exceed API specifications for drill pipe tool joint mechanical properties.
